Choices

Matthew 7:24-27, "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:  25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.  26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:  27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

Life is complicated in some cases because of all of the choices that we see around us. How long has it been since you looked at the choices in the cereal isle, coffee isle, the chip isle and even the bread isle at the grocery store? Look at all of the options that are offered to you when you purchase a new automobile or truck. There are even options available when you decide about the purchase of health insurance for your family. The list of options of various concerns have become a part of our society and it appears that they will remain a part of our decision making process as we proceed into the future.

But we must realize that there is no option when it comes to the plan of salvation and the Word of Truth that is written and revealed in the Word of God. Jesus refers to "wise and foolish" people in the choices that they make regarding the foundation upon which they build their lives. I will agree that Jesus presents options in His challenge to each of us but He also reveals the long term consequences that will arise from the options that are chosen. The spirit (attitude) of this world wants us to enjoy the freedom of our options but it also wants us to forget the results of the options that we are choosing on a daily basis. We must remember that God has provided each of us with the opportunity of "free will" but with this opportunity also comes responsibility. We must take this responsibility very seriously and make the right choices when it comes to the way that we live our lives on a daily basis. On what foundation are you building your life?
